A man who was arrested for a deadly hit and run accident had been drinking, celebrating his birthday, police said.

The accident happened in the 2600 block of South Oliver Thursday night. Police said a man and a woman were riding their bikes northbound on Oliver, when a company pickup truck struck the woman.

The man was not hurt, and tried to help the woman.

The victim has been identified as Kristina Brown, 39.

The driver of the pickup, a 35-year-old man, drove away from the scene. Police said a witness to the accident followed the driver, and provided dispatchers with a license plate number.

The man and a 27-year-old passenger parked the truck at a business near Pawnee and Oliver, then got into a personal vehicle. Officers were led to a home in the 1900 block of South main, where they arrested the man for  involuntary manslaughter, leaving scene of an accident and driving while intoxicated.

Police said the man that was arrested had been out celebrating his birthday.

The investigation continues, but the accident follow up team is looking into whether the bicycles had headlights or reflective lights to ride during the night. Police said the roads were also wet at the time of the accident.
