This weekend, people from all over Wichita will descend on The Ambassador Hotel for "Over the Edge," a fundraiser for the scouting program of the Quivira Council. Participants have raised money for the opportunity to rappel down the 14 story building. One of the rope sponsors is Aflac.
"The Boy Scouts are an important part of the community, so we wanted to help support them," explains Aflac Regional Sales ManagerKathy Wiedemann. "We can see no better way than to help the Boy Scouts raise money so kids can enjoy Summer Boy Scout Camp."
Not only is Aflac a rope sponsor, they're also participating in the event. Wiedeman and Saida Sosa, an Aflac agent, will rappel the 172 foot building.
In order to rappel, each participant has to raise a minimum of $750 for the event. According to the "Over the Edge" website, $34,267 has already been raised. The goal for the event is $50,000.
If you want to watch the participants as they rappel down one of the tallest buildings in Wichita, come out to 104 S. Broadway on the morning of May 10th. To find out more about Rope Sponsor Aflac, visit them online at http://www.aflac.com/.
