Wichita Police Crime Sheets: Thursday, October 17

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets. 

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

Storage sheds burglarized…
A 33/f says 28 storage units were burglarized in the 2900 block of N. Amidon.  She says someone used bolt cutters and pry bars to get into the units.  Those tools were left at the scene.  The amount of the loss is unknown at this time.  The company is working to inform the owners of those units.

8:05 am
A school resource officer reports overhearing two students talking about smoking and “having some good stuff” in the 1400 block of N. Rochester.  The officer searched one of the students at the office and found marijuana.  The student was suspended from school and released to parents pending a drug assessment.  That student could also face charges.

Another one of these scams…
9:57 am
A 45/f says she is selling pottery on the internet.  She was contacted by a potential customer who sent her a check for way over the amount of the property she was selling.  The customer wanted her to cash the check and send the difference back to him.  She contacted police...and didn’t lose any money.

Seems suspicious…
10:23 am
A 55/f says someone tried to deposit a large amount of money into his account.  The man claims he found the money.  That money was submitted to police.

Pizza driver’s tire sliced…
11:51 am
A 33/m says he was delivering pizza in the 400 block of N. Main when someone slashed one of his rear tires.

Decal scam?
1:32 pm
A 58/f says someone called her and stated they were from the sheriff’s department.  The caller said they are offering a decal she can put on her vehicle so she won’t get a ticket if she runs a red light.  She hung up on the guy and called police.

Another pizza delivery concern…
4:10 pm
A 43/f says she was delivering a pizza to a home in the 1300 block of S. Gordon.  She says the person in the home took the food and slammed the door in her face after she refused to accept a check from him.  An officer was called out and learned that the home was abandoned and a rear door was apparently broken.

The last of her family…
7:48 pm
A 90/f in the 8600 block of E. 21st says someone tried calling her collect from the Sedgwick County Jail.  She says she is the last person in her family and she doesn’t know anyone in jail.  She says the caller tried to get her to set up an account over the phone.  She did not.

10:02 pm
A 49/f says her nephew left his two kids with her and left for Oklahoma.  She has she has no way of caring for the children and her nephew didn’t leave any food, clothing or diapers for the children (their ages are not listed).  Living conditions at the home were considered unfit for the children, who were then taken into police protective custody.
