(WICHITA, Kan.) -

Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department.  Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.

These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.

You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)

Tree limb attack…
Friday - 7:30 am
A 43/m says he was struck in the “back area” (not sure if the report means in the back...or in the backside…) with a tree limb by two people in the 2400 block of E. 13th N.  One of the guys then took his money.  His rear car window was also broken out as the two fled the scene.

Truck stolen…
Friday - 10:13 am
A 50/f in the 1400 block of S. Ellis says someone stole her truck from her backyard.  She says she hired the guy, who was using the truck for the job.  She thinks he had a key made for it. She fired him because he wasn’t getting the work finished...and the next day, her truck was gone.  She says it’s “just a beat up old work truck...white in color.”

Backflow valves stolen…
There were at least two reports of sprinkler backflow valves being stolen on Friday.  They are in the same area.  One in the 4900 block of S. Laura, the other in the 4900 block of S. Lulu.  There are two reports of valves stolen on Lulu, minutes apart...and seemingly by the same person.  Not sure if the two reports are the same incidents, or just very similar.

Possibly explosive situation…
Friday - 11:40 am
A 37/m says he went into a building after a tenant had left and found the gas line was disconnected in the utility room and the light switch was unscrewed so it would short out if anyone had touched it.  The man who reported it said he wanted it documented with police.

Some warnings as colder temperatures approach…
Saturday - 7:32 am
A 59/m says he started his vehicle in the driveway to warm up in the 700 block of S. Longfellow.  He came back out and his vehicle was gone.

Hit and run…
Saturday - 6:34 pm
An officer reports seeing a driver involved in a crash at Kellogg & Zelta, then leaving the scene.  The officer caught up with the driver, who resisted arrest.  Turns out, he was in possession of pills and meth.  The driver was taken to the hospital for a blood draw to determine if he was under the influence.  The driver was arrested for possession of meth, possession of narcotics, DUI, resisting arrest, hit and run injury accident, driving while suspended, knowingly driving an uninsured vehicle, failure to yield, and…apparently the car was stolen, because he was booked on an auto theft charge, too.

House party…
Sunday - 12:02 am
An officer was sent to a large party at a home in the 1700 block of S. Hillside.  One of the party-goers assaulted the officer and one other person. That person was arrested for assaulting and battering a law enforcement officer, consuming alcohol as a minor, resisting arrest and possession of marijuana.  Another person was arrested for consuming alcohol as a minor and a third person was arrested for hosting the under-age party.

Car vandal…
Sunday - 11:22 am
A 34/m says someone got into his car in the 1500 block of N. Gow and trashed it.  The person took bottles of oil out of his trunk and poured them all over the car, the vandal also cut the paint down to the bare metal and cut up his leather seats, the door panels and the headliner of the car.  He has no idea who would have done such a thing.

Purses stolen from church…
Sunday - 12:17 pm
A 64/f says she was at church in the 2100 block of N. Oliver.  After services, she attended a ladies luncheon and set her purse down on a chair for a moment while she got her plate.  When she came back, the purse was gone.  She says the same thing happened to another woman there.  Police sent them identity theft packets.
