Each day, we comb through pages upon pages of crime reports from the Wichita Police Department. Below is a quick glance at some bits and pieces from those sheets.
These reports are designed to give you an idea of what residents and police are dealing with around town.
You can read all of the sheets by going here: WPD Media Reports (click on the "Media Reports" tab)
A 21/f says she saw a phone for sale online. She went to the 4600 block of W. Kellogg to buy it. But, when she went to her phone company, they told her the phone was reported stolen and could not set up service for it. She took it back to the seller and got her money back.
Left something behind…
A 25/m says he accidentally left some property in a hotel room in the 500 block of S. Rock Road when he checked out. He called the hotel several times, but was told the property was not there and none of the employees would own up to having it - or having seen it.
Probably not the IRS…
A 44/f says she got a call from someone who claimed to be with the IRS. The caller threatened her with bodily harm if she didn’t make a payment. Her husband got a similar phone call from the same number.
Not my mail…
A 55/f says she found her mailbox in the 8600 block of E. Overbrook open...and mail that doesn’t belong to her inside. She doesn’t think her mail was stolen, though.
Rude store manager…
A 42/f says she was shopping at a business in the 900 block of S. Glendale. She says a young man at the counter trying to pay for his items, but couldn’t find his credit card. He emptied his pockets and accidentally dropped some tissues on the floor. At that point, the store manager came out of a back room and accused the guy of “trashing” her store and started using very foul language toward him. The woman who reported the incident says she was upset and unable to complete her shopping...the manager then turned to hear and started calling her a foul name and telling her she could just put down her items and leave the store. The incident is listed as “disorderly conduct”.
A 45/m says he sold someone a single mattress in the 400 block of S. Rock Road. When the customer’s wife went to pick up the mattress, she told employees she’d paid for two twin mattresses. The employees allowed her to take both mattresses. The man who reported the incident called the customer and asked him to return the second mattress. The customer told him that it was not his problem.
A 64/f called police to complain that her neighbors in the 1200 block of W. Dayton leave their dog outside and it barks all night. She says the dog is right outside her bedroom window and she can’t sleep. Officers went to the home and the neighbors put the dog in the garage for the evening.
A 31/f who works at a gas station in the 5600 block of E. Harry says someone pulled up to a pump and, using a PumpStart Card, started pumping gas. Once the driver got to a large amount of money, the employee turned off the pump because it was not normal for their station to sell that much gas at once. She says another person pulled up behind the first driver - even though there were other stalls open, which she also thought was suspicious. Both drivers took off without paying for the gas.
