More than two dozen World War II veterans made the trip on an honor flight to Washington, D.C. to visit the WWII memorial.
When they stepped off their plane Friday night in Wichita, they were greeted by several dozen people who were honored to see them return home.
The museum closed when the government shutdown started, but it allowed the veterans to visit, even though it remains closed to the public.
Some say the veterans missed out on the full experience, since no visitors were allowed in the museum. Normally, people are there to greet them and thank them for their service.
That's why people at Mid-Continent Airport decided to show up and support them.
The veterans say there is another honor flight at the end of the month. They hope those on that trip will get the full experience.
