From the makers of Mighty Putty, a similar invention for your clothes: Mighty Mendit! Think of it as a super-glue for your wardrobe. Its motto: "Apply, touch and mend!"
We take a stack of clothes that needed mending to viewer Kathy Davis. Instead of a needle and thread, she reaches for the bottle of Mighty Mendit.
In just a few minutes she "glues" together several thing: a pair of jeans ripped down the seam of the leg; another pair of jeans with a torn pocket; a third with a torn belt loop and seat that needs a patch;and a pair of khaki pants that needs a hem in one leg.
The directions say it's wearable in two hours, washable in 24 hours.
We give it the benefit of the doubt and wait 48 to wash and dry.
The belt loop didn't hold, but Kathy thinks she may have needed to apply more glue. The patch stayed put on the jeans and the pocket did, too---for the most part. It had a few gaps. The khaki pants stayed hemmed, but it wasn't a clean, crisp crease like you might have gotten from sewing and ironing.
The biggest success came on the biggest project: the jeans ripped down the leg. They stayed together through the washer and the dryer.
Does It Work? Kathy thinks it could work in a pinch for people who aren't good at sewing or don't have access to a sewing machine--such as college kids. She also thinks its good for small, emergency repairs.
