"Belle," a Labrador mix who has served as a mascot for the Salina Animal Shelter the last eight years, was euthanized Monday morning.

Rose Base, the shelter's coordinator, said Belle was blind and required eye drops three times a day. Base also suspected Belle was deaf and suffering from dementia. She estimated Belle's age at 12 to 13 years old, and was hoping the dog would be adopted by an older couple.

Belle was the subject of an KWCH Eyewitness News feature last week.

"She was just a really good girl," said Base, holding back tears. "But her pain is gone now, and we'll meet up with her again someday."
