Melissa understands the meaning of “there’s no place like home.” Melissa was born and raised in Newton, Kansas. After graduating from Newton High School, she left the Railers behind and became a Mizzou Tiger.
She divided her Kansas household to attend the University of Missouri-Columbia. That’s where she started her broadcast career. She was an anchor, reporter, photographer, and producer for KOMU.
Melissa graduated magna cum laude from MU, with a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and a minor in Religious Studies. She also studied British Literature in London. Then it was off to Medford, Oregon. Melissa was a weeknight anchor, reporter, photographer, and producer at KDRV for two years.
Next, Melissa traded the mountains for the Mighty Mississippi. She worked at FOX13 in Memphis, Tennessee for seven years. She was a morning reporter, investigative reporter, weekend anchor, and morning anchor.
During her career as a journalist, Melissa covered the September 11th terrorist attacks from New York City, one of Oregon’s largest wildfires in history, and Memphis’ Lester Street Massacre.
Melissa is an Emmy-nominated journalist, whose love for writing started in Mrs. McCloud’s Journalism class at Newton High.
In her spare time, you’ll find Melissa back on the farm with her family, jogging, reading, and settling back into Kansas living!
